African developers, it’s your turn

Ericsson is launching the 5th edition of the Ericsson Application Awards. It’s a way for Africa to show it’s dynamism in that field.

Ericsson, global leader of networks infrastructures, services and communication technologies launched on October 17, 2013, the Ericsson Application Awards for Androïd & iOS (the latter is new this year).

The competition is open for students and small- and medium-sized companies of less than a hundred persons.

The theme this year is: “Apps for Working Life”. “How can apps help us all in our daily working life both now and in the future?” “How do we contribute to making the next generation of working life a context where people can better innovate, collaborate and balance life outside work?”, These are the questions participants or the competition will answer to.

The first prize is EUR 25,000 and the second one is EUR 10,000. A special price will be offer to an innovation supporting “technology for good”. The Ericson application awards permits a large visibility and recognition.

The competition comes in a global and a regional version. Last year, 192 teams from 52 countries participated. The winner of the student category in 2013 was Portugal’s GreenSpark, which offered a solution based on energy efficiency with a truly global reach. The UK’s TboxApps was the winner in the company category. Their solution was based on usage patterns in order to get access to instant messages and quickly get help.
